How to Unbrick an Allwinner Android TV Box or Tablet Using PhoenixSuit
Understanding Soft Bricks vs. Hard Bricks
If your Allwinner Android TV Box (such as an H96, TX6, Tanix, X96 Air) or tablet shows no display, hangs perpetually at the boot logo, or powers off immediately, your device is bricked. Fortunately, Allwinner SoCs contain a permanent, hardware-level bootrom (BROM) that cannot be overwritten. By triggering FEL recovery mode, PhoenixSuit can directly access the storage and flash a clean ROM.
Method 1: AV Port Hardware Recovery (Standard Soft-Brick)
Most Allwinner TV boxes feature a hidden physical microswitch placed inside the 3.5mm AV socket:
Launch PhoenixSuit & Load Stock Firmware
Open PhoenixSuit.exe on your Windows computer as Administrator. Click the Firmware tab, click Image, and select your verified stock .img firmware file.
Locate the AV Recovery Switch
Use a non-conductive toothpick or plastic tool. Gently insert it straight into the AV port on the back of the TV box until you feel a distinct physical click.
Connect USB Cable While Holding Switch
Hold the switch down firmly. Using a USB-A to USB-A male cable, plug one end into the PC and the other into the box's OTG port (usually the USB port nearest to the power jack or labeled USB 1).
Confirm Full Wipe in PhoenixSuit
Within 5 seconds, your computer will sound a hardware connect chime, and PhoenixSuit will prompt: "Tips: Upgrade firmware to device?". Release the toothpick and click Yes to initiate the burn.
CS_H6_TX6_V1.3) and Wi-Fi chip model (e.g., Realtek RTL8822 or Allwinner XR819) printed directly on the circuit board to ensure you download the exact matching .img ROM.
Method 2: Shorting NAND / eMMC Pins (Hard-Brick Recovery)
If the bootloader partition is severely corrupted and the AV button fails to trigger FEL mode, forcing a temporary memory bus read error will force the CPU straight into emergency BROM recovery:
Expose the Circuit Board
Carefully unclip the plastic chassis using a plastic spudger or guitar pick to reveal the main motherboard.
Identify the Flash Storage Chip
Locate the primary rectangular storage chip (eMMC or NAND, manufactured by Samsung, SanDisk, SK Hynix, or Micron).
Bridge the Data Pins
Using a metallic paperclip, needle, or precision tweezers, gently bridge (short) pins 7 and 8 (or 29 and 30 on older TSOP48 chips).
Plug in USB to Trigger FEL Mode
While maintaining the short, plug the USB cable into your computer. The CPU will fail to read the corrupted NAND boot sector, immediately drop into hardware FEL mode, and trigger PhoenixSuit.
Release Short & Begin Burn
As soon as PhoenixSuit sounds the connect chime and shows the upgrade confirmation dialogue, immediately remove the short and click Yes to flash.
